Spring Bags for the Keller Center offer Children a Little Joy during a Tough Time

Each spring, the BMC prepares spring "treasure" bags for the youngest victims who visit the Keller Center for Family Violence Intervention - children with signs of sexual abuse. The "treasure" bags are filled with small toys and books in an effort to provide a little cheer for the kids in an otherwise difficult time.

With the help of many of our members and local businesses we gathered donations of DVDs and coloring books for the center and small toys, novelties and books for the "treasure" bags.

A heartfelt thank you to:

  • The 490 BMC members who chose to donate to outreach when they joined our renewed their memberships. Your financial contributions went a long way to purchase the items for the center.
  • Each year we ask local businesses for in-kind donations. We would like to thank Talbots Toys in San Mateo, Lucy on Burlingame Avenue and JC Penny at Tanforan for their generous donations.
  • This year we also collected age-appropriate DVDs for the center. Thank you to the many members who dropped off their donations at the April Speaker Series and the Spring Fling.
  • And finally, thank you to the members who came early to help with the assembly of the 70 bags that took place before our April Speaker Series Event on April 9.

Combined, our efforts made this outreach project a success. Please know that the staff at the Keller Center is so grateful to the BMC for our contributions and these treasure bags will be very much appreciated by the children and families whom they serve.
